And the Oscar for best picture goes to…The Dark Knight?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Certainly I think that Heath ledger deserves a nod for his performance as the Joker (having not yet seen anything but clips from Brokeback Mountain (rest assured it’s in the netflix queue) I can’t imagine that his performance there is anywhere near as spectacular as the one he gave in this film) but is it best picture material?

Some folks seem to think so. Check out this unofficial campaign on behalf of the film, to convince the academy to pay attention to this little known film at http://www.darkcampaign.com/

Personally, I really enjoyed this flick, and think that it far surpassed the first film. I’d even go so far as to say that it opened many a door for future comic book films…but to me, Iron Man is still the quintessential comic book film of the year.

It had comedic moments, a great call to action, smattered with a healthy dose of schlocky-ness, and peppered with the perfect amount of pathos and pain. Everything that I expect from a comic book.

And please…for the love of all things holy…can someone please explain to me why the hell Hollywood can’t seem to get a character as simple as the Punisher right on film?!

I’ve created the first ever poll on the forums…so get thee over to there and vote…or something.

Home Again

The whole family survived our Disney excursion! All went well with much merriment, except for the briefest second of terror when Gepetto danced into view during a Magic Kingdom parade. Since reading Bill Willingham’s incredible Fables I just can’t see that guy the same way.

So, as I checked in with Mark this past week, I couldn’t help but recall Marvel’s 1984 stunt event “Assistant Editor’s Month.” Any body else remember that month’s fantastic Iron Man issue with the neighborhood kids that idolized the Avengers? Loved that issue. Anyway, Mark really is a huge help with OLG everyday, and he’ll get the big spotlight tomorrow when at long last we get to see the origin of Copper Captain penciled and inked by him.

It looks great and I hope you all enjoy it.
