And the Oscar for best picture goes to…The Dark Knight?
Thursday, December 4th, 2008Certainly I think that Heath ledger deserves a nod for his performance as the Joker (having not yet seen anything but clips from Brokeback Mountain (rest assured it’s in the netflix queue) I can’t imagine that his performance there is anywhere near as spectacular as the one he gave in this film) but is it best picture material?
Some folks seem to think so. Check out this unofficial campaign on behalf of the film, to convince the academy to pay attention to this little known film at http://www.darkcampaign.com/
Personally, I really enjoyed this flick, and think that it far surpassed the first film. I’d even go so far as to say that it opened many a door for future comic book films…but to me, Iron Man is still the quintessential comic book film of the year.
It had comedic moments, a great call to action, smattered with a healthy dose of schlocky-ness, and peppered with the perfect amount of pathos and pain. Everything that I expect from a comic book.

And please…for the love of all things holy…can someone please explain to me why the hell Hollywood can’t seem to get a character as simple as the Punisher right on film?!
*edit*
I’ve created the first ever poll on the forums…so get thee over to there and vote…or something.
